Reading and device storage
Reading lists, preparedness checkboxes, water-planner numbers, text-size preferences and optional offline editions are stored in your browser. They are not automatically synced to your forum account. Use the controls below to export, import or clear this device’s data.
Community accounts
Forum profiles, posts, replies, reports and moderation actions are stored on the publication’s server. Your username, display name and published contributions are visible to other readers. Profile information is stored with your account. Reports are visible to moderators, not displayed as public comments. Do not post private contact details, medical records or precise home locations.
Community accounts use a username, a hashed password, a hashed recovery code and an essential session cookie. You may add an email address to your account. It is used only to send password-reset links you request, is never shown on your public profile, and can be removed from your profile at any time.
Security and retention
Hosting providers may process request information such as IP addresses for delivery and security. The self-hosted forum uses short-lived hashed IP rate-limit identifiers for login abuse prevention. Forum records persist until the publisher removes them. Moderation records support abuse investigations; browser clearing does not remove server records. For privacy, access, correction or deletion requests, contact support@afterlightnews.com. Identify your username and request; do not email passwords or recovery codes. We may reasonably verify account ownership before acting. Applicable legal rights remain available.
Advertising and external links
No advertising provider or third-party analytics service is active. To understand which articles are read, the site counts page visits with its own cookie-free counter. It stores only the page address, the date and the domain of the referring website, as daily totals. It does not store IP addresses, set cookies, or identify or follow individual visitors, and it does not count browsers that send a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal. Future advertising requires an updated disclosure and the applicable consent controls before activation. External source links open other organizations’ sites, which have their own privacy practices. Optional offline downloads save this publication’s pages, not the linked external sources.

We may retain limited records where necessary for legal obligations, security, disputes or abuse prevention. We do not sell personal information in this build. Essential account cookies are required to sign in; optional advertising tracking is not enabled. Community membership is restricted to adults aged 18 or older. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us.
